Your Guide to Market Street

Market Street is the not-so-hidden gem of our neighbourhood.

It’s a small street that’s jam-packed with some of the city’s best places to eat and shop. The cobblestone roads make you feel like you’re in a European city, while the surrounding heritage buildings make you appreciate Toronto’s rich history. It also just so happens to run alongside the centrepiece of our neighbourhood, which is of course the St. Lawrence Market.

If you haven’t yet experienced everything that Market Street has to offer, don’t worry. This handy guide will help you better understand the area and gives you a glimpse into what the best spots to explore are.

1) Pastizza
If you couldn’t tell from their name, this restaurant specializes in pasta, pizza, and just about every other kind of Italian food you can think of. In addition to their great food, wine, and cocktail menus, their patio can seat over 100 people.

2) Balzac’s Coffee Roasters
Notorious for having some of the best coffee in the city (and other cities around Ontario), Balzac’s should be your go-to choice for a cup of joe. The shop has a great atmosphere to grab a latte and get some work done there.

3) Evolution Food Co.
This is definitely the healthiest option on the street. Head here for lunch and you’ll walk away with a great big salad, and a cold-pressed juice of your choice or a smoothie.

4) Market Street Catch
The only place to go if you’re looking for fresh seafood – the fresh catch for the day is even on display at the ordering counter for you to take your pick. Some of their more popular menu items are the seafood chowder, tacos, and of course, fish and chips.

5) Bindia Indian Bistro
Authentic Indian food in a modern space. It’s moderately priced, uses fresh ingredients, and is the closest you’ll get to traditional Indian food in the downtown core.

6) Barsa Taberna
Imagine the best tapas you’ve ever had in Spain… and you’ve got dinner at Barsa Taberna. This Spanish restaurant is the perfect place to go and split a pitcher of sangria and taste test all the different tapas dishes they offer. We recommend the Patatas Bravas!

7) LCBO
Pretty self explanatory, don’t you think?
