Neighbourhood Eats: Front Street Foods

We may have just found our favourite new food market in the city.

Front Street Foods has been taking over the front courtyard at Union Station this summer and if you haven’t gone for a stroll by it yet, we highly recommend you do so soon. This bustling food market is literally just down the street from where we’ll be located.

The market is a project started by the Toronto Market Co., the company that also ran the Union Station Holiday Market back in the winter. The idea behind the summer market was to capitalize on and make use of the newly opened and revitalized Union Station courtyard as soon as possible and get people excited about the area.

One thing we love about this market is the variety of food vendors – there’s everything from established restaurants like Little Fin, catering companies like Toben Food by Design, and new launches like Wanna Banana – who came here from the UAE, by the way. All of the vendors have chosen some of their favourite menu items to show off at the market all summer long, as well as some secret menu items (like the Bacon Cheesecake from Bacon Nation) and market specials.

If you work in the Financial District, it’s the perfect opportunity to switch things up and pick up something awesome for lunch. If you live in the area already, why not go for some after work drinks or grab dinner on the way home? The market has a licensed bar that is open from Wednesday until Saturday, and we promise you won’t have to wait in line for a spot on the patio! You can’t beat that.

Front Street Foods is clearly all about the food, but they’re keepings things interesting with an artisan market on Fridays, a Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays, live music every day from noon to 1pm, a live DJ on Fridays and Saturdays, and a Chef Demo every Saturday at 1pm.

The market takes after a European-style market with it’s outdoor vendors and shared seating. They’re really bringing something new, fresh, and successful to the downtown core, and it’s only in its first year! Due to popular demand, the market has been extended from August 30th until September 27th, so that leaves you tons of time to grab some friends and grab some delicious food and drink at the market this summer.
